Description: King Alfred was the king of Wessex, in England. He did many great things for Wessex on and off the battle field, earning his nickname, King Alfred the Great.
Why he mattered:
1. King Alfred successfully defended his portion of England, Wessex, when all the other portions of it could not be.
2. He taught others how to be kind and charitable and taught about God.
3. He was always optomistic about winning a a battle even of there was the slightest chance if victory. This put more courage and optimism into the hearts of his soldiers.
