MK-Ultra was a program designed and undertaken by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency for the purpose of testing possible drugs and procedures of mind control that could be used for interrogation, through brainwashing and psychological torture. The program had some willing participants, but several were unsuspecting citizens of the U.S. and Canada.

Polybius is considered by some to be a continuation of the MK-Ultra program that tests mind control techniques and concepts through a video game medium.

MK-Ultra almost definitely inspired the original story of Polybius, as it laid the foundation for ideas that the government was willing to test sinister things on the population, as is seen in the original Polybius story.
