Started because USS Maine was sunk (Spain is blamed although there is no real evidence of Spain’s involvement; Most likely an engine malfunction), President McKinley is pressured by the press and media as well as by Teddy Roosevelt to declare war on Spain, and because Spain is abusing and oppressing the citizens of Cuba with concentration camps and such (this was not as major a reason as the other two)
