The Great Depression (1 Jan 1929 Jahr – 1 Jan 1939 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
The Great Depression significantly contributed to political polarization in America. During this time period, Americans experienced widespread economic hardship and political instability. This led to the establishment of starkly divided left-wing and right-wing ideologies. These differing ideologies deeply divided citizens in terms of deciding upon the best approach to tackle the economic crisis that the country was facing. Many citizens at the time were advocating for increased government intervention. On the other hand, however, some citizens were fighting for laissez-faire policies. Similarly, lawmakers were polarized as the Democrats and Republicans were also deeply divided in deciding upon the best approach for addressing the crisis. The polarization between citizens and lawmakers continued into the creation of New Deal programs that were widely criticized by both parties. Society was greatly polarized over deciding upon the best policies to recover the economy.
