Joseph Haydn’s younger brother, a musical academic and freelance teacher. An organist, took over for Mozart’s court job in Salzburg where he stayed for 43 years. Author E.T.A. Hoffmann wrote that he is every bit his brother’s equal. Wrote mostly sacred work including 35 masses (2 requiems), 6 oratorios, 13 cantatas, and 400 motets.
