The discourse of the Trump administration towards the American public pitted groups against each other, fueling a sense of pernicious polarization and political animosity toward any outgroup. This further divided the American public and prohibited collaboration across the aisle. Trump’s presidency impacted the nature of political parties, and the Republican party shifted their agenda to be more populist and nationalist than ever before. Likewise, the American people, specifically those who identified themselves as a Trump supporter, became more extremist in their views, attitudes, and behaviors. The way that political parties functioned was significantly impacted, alienating many politicians and uprooting the political climate. The Trump presidency significantly increased polarization in America and made it nearly impossible to bridge the ideological gap between certain groups in America.
