Beschreibung:

A cultural backlash against the rationalism and materialism of the enlightenment, instead choosing subjective emotion and creativity over logic and reason. It was a rejection of the Neoclassical style, which employed Classical themes and linear designs, by replacing order and balance with imagination and emotion. Literature and art encouraged introspection and focused on the purity of nature to counteract corruption. During these period, art was focused on individual expression and not dictated by the church or state.
