Japanese ethnographers pushed the narrative that Koreans and Japanese people were of the same race, but Koreans were the "lazy" version of them. Efforts continued throughout until Japan's victory in 1905 against Russia in the Russo-Japan War over Manchuria and the Korean peninsula.
