The Great Migration period (1 Jan 1915 Jahr – 1 Jan 1960 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
The mass migration of about five million southern African Americans to the north and west between 1915 and 1960. The refugees fled the South because of the Jim Crow Laws, segregation, lynching, to find better jobs, and have more economic mobility. In the beginning the cities that the migrants went to were Chicago, Illinois, Detroit, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and New York. But by World War II the migrants began to also head west to Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, California, Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.
