French New Wave (5 Jan 1958 Jahr – 9 Jan 1967 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

in 1958 Film was such that the only ones who made money from it were big production companies. And there wasn't much room for independent filmmakers. This is when some film critics, including Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut, decided that they were going to make films that were more down to earth and that didn't have massive production companies behind them. They made films about working class people who struggled to get by. This really connected with their audiences as often people who would watch these films were quite poor so they could relate to the characters. The cameras they used were called Eclair Cameflex and were a lot smaller and a lot lower quality than the ones they used in Hollywood. this gave the image a lot of a gritty grainy feel which worked for the style as it kept with the simple working class feel. They also started using new techniques such as the use of natural light and also jump cuts. Some of the most important french new wave films are Vivre sa vie, Les Bonnes Femmes and Breathless.
