Ashoka (1 Jan 304 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Jan 232 Jahr v. Chr.)

Beschreibung:

King Ashoka was the grandson of Chandragupta and in the vein of his predecessors began his rule as a forceful ruler in order to establish his dominance before stepping back. He converted to Buddhism and spread the religion. Architecturally he is remembered for the construction of the Ashokan Pillars and to a lesser degree the proliferation of stupas which are buildings containing a piece of Buddha. He continued the tradition of relations between with the west and even inscribed the tales of his rule in Aramaic as well as his own tongue.
