Black Death (1 Jan 1346 Jahr – 1 Jan 1353 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
The Black Death, an outbreak of bubonic plague, ravaged Europe. Terrible health standards allowed it to spread easily, killing 1/3 of Europe, and even 1/2-2/3 in cities like Florence (some shut themselves off, like Milan, Liège, and Nuremberg).
The epidemic had a significant impact on the economy and trade. Many turned to religion as a result. Flagellants whipped themselves as punishment for their own and society’s sins. People looked for scapegoats, the most prominent being the Jews. Thousands of Jews were murdered, looted, or expelled.
