The Philistines appear to be the same as the Peleshet, one of the Sea Peoples that caused the Bronze Age Collapse.

DNA analysis on Philistine graves at Ashkelon established that a main body of Philistines arrived in the land in a large migratory wave from Crete, sometime around the mid-13th century BCE.

Deuteronomy 2:23 - And as for the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came from Caphtor, destroyed them and lived in their place.) The Avvim were apparently the original Philistines, from one of the "five governors of the Philistines" (Joshua 13:3).
