Second war of Italiand Indepednence (1 Apr 1859 Jahr – 1 Jul 1860 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
The war of 1859(The second war of Italian Independence) - The war between Austria, Piedmont and France that started in April 1859. Austria issued a demand that Piedmont should demobilize its army and after the rejection, war was declared on Piedmont. A few days later the French declared war on Austria as discussed in the Plombieres meeting. The war ended in 7 weeks, as Napoleon III no longer wished for further casualties, was concerned about Prussia attacking France in his absence, and was suspicious of Piedmont’s recent political activities (its budding unions with Modena, Parma, and Tuscany - a united Italy would be a threat to French dominance). The terms of the peace treaty were as follows:
Piedmont would receive Lombardy which would first be handed over to France and then passed by Napoleon III to Victor Emanuel.
The previous rulers of Tuscany, Modena and Parma were to be restored to the Duchies
Austria still kept Venetia and therefore remained a powerful influence on Italy.
