Westward Expansion & Antebellum Era 1828 - 1860 (1 Jan 1828 Jahr – 1 Jan 2086 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
As Manifest Destiny motivated westward expansion in the United States, the debate over slavery became fiercer as Northern and Southern states grappled for political power. The conflicts over whether to allow slavery in the new Western states led to bloody conflicts such as the Mexican-American War and Bleeding Kansas, and eventually led to the Civil War when the South seceded to preserve slavery.
Reconstruction was a success to the extent that it established the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. The 13th Amendment allowed African Americans to be freed from slavery. Therefore, this paved the way for the 14th Amendment that guaranteed citizenship to everybody regardless of race or origin. Lastly, the 15th Amendment allowed black men to vote. During Reconstruction, this was monumental as black people were never allowed to vote, yet even if they were they were taxed or shunned for it.
