Vietnam War (1 Nov 1955 Jahr – 30 Apr 1975 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

North and South Vietnam engaged in a long, expensive, and decisive war between 1955-75, and became known as the Vietnam War.  The battle was made worse by the Cold War with American for supporting South Vietnam and the  Soviet Union and China helping Communist North Vietnam.  These superpowers fought on opposing sides of the battle to halt or hasten the spread of communism throughout Asia. Because the US worried communism would spread to the rest of Asia, or what it called the "Domino effect," the United States agreed to provide money, supplies, military advisers, and even troops to aid the South Vietnamese government in trying to halt the spread of the ideology. The Soviet Union and China on the other hand, decided to give moral, logistic ad military support to North Vietnam, hoping to build and expand communism across Asia. The Vietnam War lasted for 20 years, and battles like the Tet Offensive, The Battle Of Huế, The Battle Of Xuân Lộc and many more resulted in the deaths of nearly 60,000 American Soldiers and an estimated 2 million Vietnamese Civilians, with well over a million Vietnamese soldiers dying as well.

The Cold War's key event, the Vietnam War, pitted the Soviet Union and the United States against one another in their drive for global dominance. The media had a big impact on the Vietnam War because of how swiftly technology developed and because Americans could now watch military atrocities on television. One of the worst instances of this was the My Lai Massacre, which in 1968 led to upheaval across the nation. Whether for moral reasons or because it seemed to have no possibility of success, a large portion of Americans opposed the war. The war was one of the most scrutinised of all time, as many claimed it was a war against Vietnamese independence, as the North was fighting the colonial rule of both Japan and France. It was also seen as an intervention in a foreign civil war, and something that the United States had no right to get in.

Vietnam was eventually united under communist rule in 1975 following the withdrawal of American troops. Even though the Vietnam War was officially concluded, its ramifications would last for years. The war caused significant economic harm to the United States, which led to a cycle of inflation and a decline in military morale. The Vietnam War had a detrimental impact on the civil rights movement as well, with widespread perceptions that it was a racist conflict waged to retain colonial-style dominance over a non-white region and that African-American soldiers were treated poorly. The Vietnam War also significantly affected Australia, with conscription being used after a draft was issued, causing tensions, as well as eventually causing the government to remove conscription altogether in 1973. By the end of the Vietnam War, the Communist government had taken over their homeland and unified the country. This resulted in many Vietnamese fleeing the country as refugees, many of whom moved to Australia. This contributed to Australian life in many areas such as arts, politics. cuisine, research and much more, making Australia a much more multicultural place to live in.
