3rd C BCE Alexandria (1 Apr 331 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Apr 20 Jahr v. Chr.)
Beschreibung:
Alexandrian medicine was characterized by a change in diversity. It was an environment that facilitated the pursuit of new investigation, ideas, and controversy. There was not a single body of medical knowledge that was held as incontestable authority. It was also considered a “city without skin” where Greek culture was intermingled with older cultures and vigorous scientific debate flourished. Systemic dissection also became a way of gaining knowledge in Alexandria. Complex traditions of embalming served as an example and provided techniques for Alexandria dissectors such as Herophilus and Erasistratus.
