Humanism (1 Jan 1300 Jahr – 1 Jan 1700 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

Humanism - the system of thought focusing on medicine and illness as a part of the human and natural world, rather than a supernatural or religious one - became popular during the Renaissance (1300s-1700s). During this time period, the beliefs of the "Dark Ages" were dismissed, and many prominent scholars and physicians began returning to original texts like Galen's works. In particular, humanism marked the end of scholarly theory with no hands-on practice (scholasticism) and catalyzed a rise in anatomically correct art pieces, dissection of human bodies, and, due to more experimentation through dissections and emphasis on the natural world, the first advances in human anatomy research since Galen. Vesalius, who wrote On the Fabric of the Human Body (see image), lived during the age of humanism.
