The Vikings were pillagers, colonizers and traders that traveled by sea and took control of areas in and around Europe by force.

The Vikings were the first Europeans to explore Northern America and establish communities. Leif Eriksson Day is a holiday created to commemorate the Viking explorer who was believed to have led the first European exploration of Northern America. This was almost 500 years before the birth of Christopher Columbus.

Although it is commonly believed and depicted, Vikings did not have horns on their helmets. They would have worn simple helmets, designed specifically for protecting the head from impact.
