The main cause of New Zeland Land wars was Maori trying to establish power, Kīngitanga Tāwhiao. This movement was against the english treaty But not the Maori translated version of the treaty. This caused Maori population decline and Maori land losses. That resulted in Maori economic decline. An example of this is the british army marched into Rangiaowhia on 21 February 1864, with farms extended for miles the british torched the land causing a near economic collaspe amongst the southern Waikato tribe.
