World War I depresses the optimism of humanists and Postmillennialism, the belief that Jesus’s promised return is an allegory for the gradual improvement of humanity into an unending peace of the Kingdom of God on earth. In its place, Premillennialism and Dispensationalism—the belief that Jesus’ return must literally happen to “rapture” the Church, saving it from “Great Tribulation” period, after which the Kingdom of God is established on earth—rise as popular beliefs among Conservative and Fundamentalist Christianity.

The most popular beliefs in both the Conservative, and Fundamentalist Churches came about through the struggles of war. People believe in Premillennialism, and Dispensationalism, which says that a "rapture" of the church must happen to be saved in this period of "Great Tribulation"
