Fur Trade and the Hudson's Bay Company (2 Mai 1670 Jahr – 1 Jan 1840 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

The Hudson's Bay Firm (HBC), founded on May 2, 1670, is the world's oldest incorporated joint-stock merchandising company. For the most of its history, HBC was a fur trading company, with a past that is intertwined with the colonisation of British North America and the creation of Canada. The fur trade was a massive business that spanned what is today Canada's wild, forested landscape. From the early 17th until the mid-nineteenth centuries, it was at its pinnacle. It was primarily supported by beaver trapping in order to meet European demand for felt hats. The fiercely competitive trade allowed for exploration and settlement on the continent. It supported missionary work, fostered social, commercial, and colonial links between Europeans and Indigenous peoples, and helped shape Canada's birth and development.
