Potsdam Conference (17 Jul 1945 Jahr – 2 Aug 1945 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
The Potsdam Conference was near Berlin to discuss post-war peace, and deal with the aftermath of the war. Attending countries were the United States, the Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom. This time, instead of President Roosevelt attending, his successor President Truman, who had a much different idea of how to deal with the Soviet Union than Roosevelt. Truman, rather than focusing on strenthening alliance bonds with the Soviet Union, wanted to oppose them. During this meeting, Stalin would not acknowledge the independence of Eastern European countries, and exerted much control over their governments. Germany would also be officially divided up amongst the allies. This meeting impacted the Cold War by demonstrating that the United States and the Soviet Union had opposing goals and ideals, leading to an increasing opposition towards one another. Germany being divided up also greatly effects the Cold War in the near future.
