A string of officials, high and low, were shot, five fatally, the majority of attacks occurring in Bengal. Began when the District Magistrate Midnapore, James Peddie, was shot and killed. The majority of the attacks on Europeans in 1931 were not carried out by the HSRA but by individuals who seemed to be inspired by them.
