Giuseppe Garibaldi, the coolest man in human history, took 1000 poorly armed redshirt volunteers to Sicily, with British naval and financial backing, where he quickly succeeded in defeating the pathetic Neapolitan military and bolstering his numbers with much sympathetic beleagured Sicilian peasants. In just under a year he managed to take this rather ragtag fighting force from controlling Sicily to controlling all of Naples, shortly after which Italy was declared united as the Kingdom of Italy annexed the entirety of the Two Sicilies and a significant portion of the Papal States.
