John Jameson lands his space craft and is taken into medical custody. He demands release, though his isolation is taken seriously after he describes what occurred on the Zenith. He escapes and heads to New York City, and begins infecting people. Max Model informs the CDC and military as to what has happened, and the island of Manhattan is quarantined. Bridges and harbors are closed, and the waters patrolled. People are instructed to remain in their homes. Sue Storm is called in to investigate, and Peter Parker volunteers his participation.

Studying the footage of Jameson, they theorize that the alien consumes and replicates the host tissue, mimicking it perfectly. They theorize that Jameson will be driven to spread the infection, and if he can't get off the island he'll infect those trapped in their homes. They find Jameson, and confront him, which results in Peter becoming infected. However, due to the atypical nature of his blood, the infection fails. Storm begins studying Parker's blood as a possible source for immunization. In the meantime, they also determine that heat and sound negatively affect it, so the military sets up infrasound generators around the island, keeping it trapped.
