T'Chaka is assassinated by Erik N'Jadaka Stevens, leader of a rebellion and son of Prince N'Jobu. Backed by the Mpaka and Mto tribes, they succeed in taking control of the agricultural lands surrounding Birnin Zana and siege the city. The balance of power shifts when the Jabari tribe sided with the Dhahabu and Mchimba tribes.
