Modern day Rwanda was settled by the Twa and Hutu people somewhere between the 5th and 11th centuries. The Tutsis arrived in the 14th century. Once settled, different kingdoms were established by the varying groups. This aspect makes Rwanda unique compared to other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, as their boundaries were not drawn by Europeans, but instead were a result of these ethnic differences.
