First Attempt at Peace Talks Breaks Down (1 März 1939 Jahr – 6 März 1939 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
For over a week, the French Government had been contacting British Prime Minister Halifax. The French had called for peace talks immediately, Halifax had accepted. But Germany [when contacted through Sweden] declined to discuss peace talks with the UK and France.
The Germans would have been stupid to do so when they faced little resistance in France by pushing forward and taking Paris, where they would be in a much more sensible position to negotiate. Especially the Allies had given away their hand by requesting talks at all.
The Germans continued their advance.
