(1235-Post 1450) The Mali Empire was located in West Africa and lasted from 1235 A.D. to 1670 A.D. It was founded by Sundiata Keita, and is widely known for it's many ruler's large wealth, especially Mansa Musa. It was the largest empire in West Africa at it's highest point, and it had an immensely large influence on surrounding empires and civilizations. Their trade economy relied heavily on gold and also salt.
