(Pre 1200-Post 1450) The Inca Empire emerged in what is now Southeastern Peru in the 12th century A.D. They believed that they were sent to Earth by the sun god Inti. Under the rule of their fourth emperor, they began expanding their land, but they did not become a truly formidable power until the rule of the eighth emperor, Viracocha Inca, in the 15th century.
