Stalin's Economic Impact
Stalin’s Five-Year-Plans sought to rapidly industralise the Soviet Union by mechanised farming. The focus on heavy industries also meant that consumer goods and products were largely neglected. Clothing was in short supply, and many suffered in the bitter Russian winters because of unsuitable clothes and badly heated homes. Basic consumer goods such as clothes, shoes and food were severely lacking and had to be rationed. These shortages also led to high prices and inflation (actual value of workers’ salaries fell by 50%)
