in July 4 1776, congress declared the declaration of independence. The declaration of independence is a legal document which the congress passed to make it so that the 13 colonies were independent from the british rule.
The declaration of independence was written by people like Thomas Jefferson, powerful leaders with lots of wealth at that time, but despite this they saw the unfariness from the british and decided to protest and do something againts the unfairness.
