ok so cian is smart as fuck
he's not rich, he's not royalty, but he's smart af and he knows it and feels like he has something to prove
so he figures out the rest of the equation, and he notes down everything the scientist told him and everything he learned himself in this big book
it's the tome
the one written in the strange language
he's also studied the language of the first civ and become fluent in it, so part of the tome is written in his own language, part in the ancient one, so he's the only one who can read it properly (and maybe also iain later on)
he finishes the book and memorizes it all and puts it in neflys's warroom and makes vorr seal it with magic with them inside
vorr indulges him without knowing what he's trying to do
she's pregnant, btw
they go about doing these rituals that he says will let her sever herself from her controlling mother so they can be together
so she's acting as the sage, and he's the scientist, and together they perform a ritual in that war room that brings about the flood by literally tearing a giant rift in the earth, nearly circling it entirely
they weren't quite strong enough, so they couldn't close the circle, but it was close enough (ha)
they stay together in that room being happy and cute for forty days and forty nights until cian finally says it's time to go out
when they do, vorr is horrified at the sight
everything has been washed away, everyone she knew and loved is dead
she runs away, deep into the heart of the woods, and he follows her
