Franz Xaver Baron von Werra (Mithuran) (5 Sept 1940 Jahr – 10 Jan 1941 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

On September 5th 1940 Franz Werra was captured by the Canadian soldiers and was put in a prison in Ontario. On October 7 1940 he tried escaping but was caught on October 12th trying to climb a hill. He was sent to camp 13 where he joined a group who was trying to escape by digging a hole. On December 20th he escaped and made it to the nearest RAF base where he hopped on a plane and was almost about to leave, when Squadron Leader Boniface arrested him at gunpoint. On January 1941 he was put on a boat with other German Prisoners. His plan was to jump of the boat and swim all the way to the U.S. When he came to the U.S he got caught and was sent back to Germany since the U.S at that time was a neutral country. There he was awarded the “Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross”.
