- Some major industry events had been canceled since the lockdown in pandemics such as E3 2020, PAX (withdrew), San Diego Comic-Con, and other events. While the other events hold a streamed presentation in virtual Livestream including the 16th British Academy Games Awards, MineCon (the Minecraft festival event), Game Developers Choice Awards, and Independent Games Festival.
-The video game industry, in general, saw a massive boost from the pandemic since people under lockdowns were forced to stay home, with video games becoming a popular pastime such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons became the best-selling premium game of units sold over 31,800,000 but the revenue is it unknown. Some of the games have large audience enjoyment potential, including Fall Guys, Among Us, and The Jackbox Party Packs, which saw great increases in popularity during the pandemic.
- The announcement of two new game consoles are PlayStation 5 (PS5) by Sony Interactive Entertainment and, Xbox Series X and Series S by Microsoft. Both revealed in September, PS5 with the new model console different than the previous console, as well as innovations in its controller. Xbox Series X and Series S have both different model consoles, with improvements in resolution and frame rates. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S were released in November 2020 which was two days after Sony’s PlayStation 5 was released.
