Civil Rights Direct Action Against Discrimination (1 Jan 1955 Jahr – 1 Jan 1964 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

After the Montgomery boycott, the civil rights movement transitioned into more direct action in order challenge segregation. for example, in Little Rock federal troops escorted 9 students to high school after the courts ordered the school to desegregate. The federal troops were necessary because of the angry white mob that was trying to stop them from entering the school. The SNCC started sit ins by high school and college students in 1960 at segregated lunch counters. The first sit in was in Greensboro North Carolina at a Woolsworth lunch counter and it grew to 58 sit ins. In the summer of 1964 the freedom riders (organized by CORE ) which consisted of black and white young people riding together through the South in order to challenge segregation. Freedom Riders faced angry white mobs in the south that assaulted them.
