Abraham Lincoln already had heavy political beliefs and ambitions. and it all started in 1832,when he was 23 he ran for the Illinois house of representative. in 1847, Lincoln was elected to the us house of representatives, and in 1849 he introduced a bill to abolish slavery, and the bill did not pass. now in 1858 Abraham ran for senate, but this time he was a republican, against a democrat Stephen A. Douglas. he lost that election and but in return he gained prominence for himself and even the party that he was in. And now in 1860 two different parties ran for president but no one really did any presidential campaigning but people still knew what Abraham Lincoln wanted to do so they casted their votes on him and he won with 180 electoral votes, even though he only had 40 percent of the popular votes.
