Dorothea Dix: The Movement for public asylums was during the 20s and 30s on the 19th centry when an increase in mentally ill individuals who were living in horrible conditions was evident. Dorothea Dix brought attention to the horrible conditions mentally ill people were subjected to in being incarcerated with criminals and helped create professional care for them in mental hospitals.
