When military conflict broke out between Hesse and Thuringia, a great scare of an imminent world war goes through Europe, as Hesse is protected by France and Thuringia by Prussia, with Prussia allied to Britain and France favored by Austria and Russia.

The war stays local and rather minor, with Hesse sustaining 1,724 casualties (842 dead) and Thuringia suffering 2,243 casualties (1,019 dead).

The French ambassador in Prussia, Jules Cambon, managed to prevent both states' entry into the war with the historic Cambon Pact, a mutual declaration of neutrality. Subsequently, Jules Cambon becomes an international hero and his position (French ambassador in Berlin) is subsequently known in France as "Peacekeeper".
