Beschreibung:
A Jewish resistance group called the Maccabees, who remained observant to the Torah, fought the Seleucids and drove them out and thenestablished a semi-autonomous state in 142 BCE. This period of independence lasted until the arrival of Roman troops in Palestine in 63 BCE.
