Harlem Renaissance; Marcus Garvey (POL, CUL) – Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican who brought the UNIA with him when he moved to Harlem during the Harlem renaissance. The United Negro Improvement Association was an association that advocated for African American pride in their race. Garvey wanted African Americans to feel proud and he wanted economic self-sufficiency for the black community in the United States. He faced federal charges in 1925 and was jailed after being tried and convicted. He had many supporters such as Du Bois and other big names as well.
