As a result of the spread of the second Great Awakening, more people were emboldened to form new churches. Unitarian societies slowly spread West from their origin in New England, Catholic churches new as a resllutof increased immigration, Judaism spread as a result of increased immigration, and John Smith founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons).
