Beschreibung:

Coming from the two Germanic tribes: the Angles and the Saxons, this period of literature dates back to the invasion of Celtic England. This era ends with the conquest of England by the Norman France, under the reign of William.

Eventhough most of this period is represented by oral literature, works as Beowulf and the Christian poetry of Caedmon and Cynewulf, kept prose vibrant in the era.
