Civil war on American Values - Life, Liberty and Property - Civil war gave values to more of the country, including African Americans - prioritized human rights of more people, and paved way for other minorities to fight for their rights.
Federal government - substantial increase - highly opposed and remain through history as modern day republicanism
W.E. DuBois - believed Civil war had little significance in overall culture shift - people still racist after war - While slaves free, they were still segregated in most of the country
Politics and Values - drastically changed the citizenship process - gave citizenship rights to all men born within the country
