- Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr. led the Allies at Okinawa
- The battle took place on the Japanese Island of Okinawa
- Japanese Kamikaze pilots weakened Allied naval support
- The battle was gruesome and costed the lives of more than 7,600 Americans and 110,000 Japanese. It was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater and was a significant win for the Allies. The battle ended when two Japanese generals committed suicide by sword in shame of defeat and refusal to surrender
- The victory gave the Allies access to their final assault on Japan and served as the final major battle in the war but also contained the most casualties in the Pacific
