Yalta Conference (4 Feb 1945 Jahr – 11 Feb 1945 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
Location: City of Yalta in the Soviet Union
Summary: After the reelection of Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt all met up in the city of Yalta. For eight days, The Big Three discussed the fate of Germany and the postwar world. Stalin wanted to keep Germany divided but Churchill strongly disagreed. Roosevelt acted as a mediator in attempt to maintain the Grand Alliance. The meeting also produced a series of compromises including the agreement of the temporary division of Germany into four zones. Stalin also agreed to join the war against Japan but friction between the Soviet Union and the other Allies continued to grow.
Significance: This conference was extremely significant because the three major leaders discussed the fate of Germany after they had won the war. This conference resulted in many compromises, as well as Stalin agreeing to join in the war against Japan but there were still undeniable tensions between the other allies and the Soviet Union.
