Beschreibung:
Donato di Niccoló di Betto Bardi was his full name He was born c, 1386 in Florence Italy and he died December 13th 1466. Donatello was a sculptor, he worked in both marble and bronze. His works represented anatomy correctly, and some were exaggerated, to show some individuality. He was also an expert of ancient art, many of his pieces were inspired by classical art. Donatello is known for his pieces St Mark and David. St Mark is a sculpture of the evangelist Saint Mark. It is larger than life size and is made from a single block of stone. Saint Mark is shown standing on a pillow, this pillow is made to look soft. To be able to relay “softness” in stone shows Donatello's amazing talent. David was one of his earliest works, used to decorate the Cathedral. The David was “dramatic in posture and full of youthful energy” (source 3) “This sensitivity to the audience and the ability to manipulate his viewers through his works in stone and bronze are part of what makes him such a distinctive figure—and part of why his Saint Mark still has the ability to astound us with its power and expressiveness.” (source 2) He helped move to more expressionist art.
