Florence in the years 1397-1495 as a centre for the european wool trade. The industry was very healthy so there was a lot of wealth in the area. The wealthy merchants had a lot of power, so they built fancy mansions with gold domes. The merchants competed to build the fanciest manson. All of this supported the art industry, they needed to hire artists to design and decorate the buildings. All of these artistic elements were influenced by petrarch and humanism.
