On the 28th of July 1914 World War One began when Austria and Hungry declared war on Serbia. Australia sent troops to support Britain after they joined the war by declaring war on Germany. During World War 1 more than half of the men enlisted in the Australian army were killed or injured. One of the most well known battles took place in Gallipoli when Australian soldiers landed at ANZAC cove together with New Zealand British and French troops. Around 60,000 Australian soldiers died fighting for our country and another 150,000 were wounded.
